On 5th February, 2016 the Well Project opened up a new Youth Club for 7 to 19 year olds in Kirkthorpe, near Normanton, West Yorkshire. The opening day saw 33 young people attend the youth club and have lots of fun.
Kirkthorpe is situated between Wakefield and Normanton, West Yorkshire. It's a small village with the nearest shop being in Normanton. There has been no youth provision for a number of years and with a growing number of young people in the three areas, Kirkthorpe, Warmfield cum Heath and Heath Common a Youth Club is a very welcome addition to the community.
The Kirkthorpe Parish Council have given the Well Project use of their community building located in the park on Kirkthorpe Lane. The building has everything needed, including Wi-Fi, a kitchen, a park and playing field. In true keeping with the Well Project's policies, the Youth Club will be Free of charge to attend for all. There will however be a short charge for tuck shop (optional).
This is a brand new Youth Club and will be developed with the help of the young people attending - their ideas and suggestions will ensure we are meeting the needs of the young people and the community.
The Youth Club will be managed by Kerry Nichol, Youth Worker for the Well Project with the help of volunteers including Tim Dewhirst, Cath Andrews, Adam Frazer and Michelle Newton. Running on Friday's from 6pm to 7:45pm each week it will offer arts and crafts, sports, activities, wii and x-box games to start with. Funding has been applied for to provide more equipment - watch this space for updates.
