The new Meet 'n' Eats Diner opened on 14th January 2016 at the Woodhouse Community Centre, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Normanton.
The concept started at the Well Project @ Haw Hill Park in October 2015 as the Soup Well, for anybody wanting a free hot meal and to make new friends, but this became so popular it soon outgrew the Haw Hill building and needed a larger venue. After talks with Normanton Town Council it was decided to form a partnership and use the Woodhouse Community Centre in Normanton. A few local businesses donated money to help the new venture and to enable the purchase of new equipment, supplies and pay for the Fareshare membership for 2016 - Meet 'n' Eats Diner was born!
Run entirely by volunteers from the Well Project and Normanton Town Council, the Meet 'n' Eats Diner attracted nearly 50 people in the first week, all of whom enjoyed a 2 or 3 course hot meal and a friendly chat and there was even enough food to take home for tea!
The Fareshare pallet arrives every week, then it's a case of Ready, Steady, Cook for our lovely volunteers who come up with delicious recipes week on week.
Meet 'n' Eats Diner is free to attend for those wanting to improve their social circle, have a hot meal and enjoy some company. We just ask for donations toward our running costs.
The Well Project minibus is available to pick people up and take people home afterwards. If you need a lift, please call Michelle on 07872 551640 to book your seat as places are limited.
Volunteers are always needed for various roles from meeting and greeting, setting tables up, making cuppas, serving food to washing up! If you're interested in helping out, please get in touch.
